ANZAC Day 2015 - 5 Days Tour
From Istanbul, we head to the Gallipoli Peninsula for exploration of the area before the Anzac Service. Explore the old trenches, visit Chunuk Bair, and the UNESCO ruins of Troy. Lastly be culturally introduced into Turkish village life by visiting Assos.
Tour Itinerary
10:00 Meet your bus group in front of the Hagia Sofia Mosque (pink mosque, opposite the Blue Mosque in Sultanahmet, Istanbul. Look for our signs with your bus number on it.) 11:00 Depart for the Gallipoli peninsula. There will be a rest stop half way where you can buy lunch.19:00 Join the convoy of our buses for departure to the Dawn Service site. This is a good timeto stock up on munchies for the big day to come. There are no shops after departing Eceabat.
05:30 Dawn Service commences as the sun breaks the skyline behind the Turkish Sphinx. 07:30 While waiting for your bus to transfer you to the next service you can eat breakfast on the grass with the group or feel free to tell your leader that you want to go exploring; take your breakfast pack and walk the ridges and old trenches to the next service. Australian and/or New Zealand National services. (Service times for these have yet to be released).15:00 Approx. Buses depart for Eceabat, where you will check into your accommodation, have a shower and a well-deserved sleep. 19.30 Screening of the Gallipoli movie.
Breakfast time will be decided upon by the group the night before. 12:00 : Departure for Gallipoli battlefield tour of the ANZAC area. 5 hour tour visiting: - Kabatepe War Museum. - Beach Cemetery (John Simpson’s grave). - ANZAC Cove. - Ari Burnu – first ANZAC landing place. - Lone Pine – main Australian memorial. - Johnson’s Jolly – walk in the original ANZAC & Turkish trenches and view the tunnels. - Turkish memorial. - The Nek – main scene depicted in the movie Gallipoli. - Chunuk Bair – main memorial for the New Zealand soldiers. A restaurant lunch is included today.
07:00 Breakfast awaits. 08:00 Depart for a day of culture & sites. Fully guided tour of the ruins of Troy. Off to Assos, an amazing village with hand-built rock houses. Here you can buy your lunch at the harbour & eat with the view of the island of Lesvos in front of you. A stop off at village to see the Turkish countryside & village life. Then back to Eceabat for your farewell dinner at 8pm.
8:00 Breakfast service begins. 10:00 Depart for Istanbul, Sultanahmet area. End of tour.
