Tour Itinerary
Pick up from the airport and transfer to your hotel by private car. Overnight stay in Istanbul.
Pick up from your hotel & visit Haghia Sophia, Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, Grand Bazaar and Topkapi Palace (Harem not included). Overnight stay in Istanbul.
Pick up from your hotel & drive (4.5 hours) south to the Gallipoli Peninsula. Hear expert information from a local guide. Visit the Kabatepe War Museum, the intended landing place at Brighton Beach and Anzac Cove where the Dawn Service is held yearly. Also visit the NZ Memorial at Chunuk Bair, the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine, and the Turkish Memorial as well. Overnight in Canakkale. Note: Enough time is spent in Gallipoli to visit all the sites mentioned above.
Pick up from your hotel & morning tour of the ruins of the ancient cities of Troy (1 hour drive from Canakkale). Lunch break. In the afternoon, drive to Kusadasi, stopping at the beautiful ruins of Pergamon (2 hours drive) on the way. These stunning ruins, beautifully located on a hill top, demonstrate that the architects and sculptors of Pergamon were among the most talented in the Hellenistic world. Drive from Pergamon to Kusadasi will be 2.5 hours. Overnight in Kusadasi.
Pick up from your hotel & visit the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world. Then visit Ephesus Ancient City, the best-preserved Greco-Roman city in the world. Here you will explore the Agora, Odeon, Celsius Library, Hadrian Temple, Roman Baths, Grand Theatre & Marble Street. After a lunch break, visit the House of Virgin Mary, where she is thought to have spent her final years. Overnight stay in Kusadasi.
Hot Air Balloon Flight Over Pamukkale (optional extra - please ask for details) Hotel pickup, then a quick snack and safety briefing. Watching the balloon inflate, then you're off! Soaring over Cotton Castles of Pamukkale, and dipping low for a close view. This may be your favourite part of your Turkey trip - it will certainly be unforgettable. Celebrate a soft landing with a quick drink, and return to your hotel for breakfast around 8.30am. Pick up from your hotel & morning drive (2.5 hours) to Pamukkale, then lunch. In the afternoon, tour the 'Cotton Castle.' Bring swimwear as you may have time to swim in the Antique Pool (extra fee applies.) Also visit the ancient ruins of the City of Hierapolis with its theatre and Necropolis. Overnight in Pamukkale.
Pick up from your hotel & morning flight to Istanbul. Transfer to hotel or sea port to meet your cruise in Istanbul. P.S. Drop off in Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye or Kusadasi is possible with this tour.

This was the best trip my family has ever taken! Amazing communication from Michael before the trip and Makbule while in Turkey, and they made us feel very comfortable traveling with our 5 and 8 year old girls. I want to recommend the Lycian Way tour in particular to families. It had the perfect balance of seeing amazing sights and learning historical facts while also having plenty of downtime at the beach and in the sea. It really made it the perfect holiday. The Turkish people loved our children and were so, so kind to them, from tour guides to hotel workers to random shops keepers. We are back in Western Australia safe and sound after our wonderful trip to Turkey. Everything ran like clockwork, the accommodation was excellent (especially La Vista in Kusadasi and MCD in Cappadocia), and the guides were knowledgeable and accommodating. Every city or town we visited had something special to offer and we were surprised at the ancient history of the country. The hot air ballooning was a highlight! Things to Do in Gallipoli and Canakkale
The town of Canakkale, being located between the Aegean Sea and the Sea of Marmara, is a seaport that is of great importance to Turkey. Two things that make Canakkale of historical relevance are its early civilization (3000BC to 400AD) and the two most remarkable battles in history – the mythical Trojan War and the Battle of Canakkale during World War I. Because of its colorful past, a visit to the museums, monuments and ancient cities are a must.
Other Places To Visit - Gallipoli Battlefields
The Gallipoli Peninsula suffered a great deal during the World War I, having a casualty record of 100,000 deaths and 400,000 wounded over a span of nine months. The Gallipoli Battlefields extend 35 kilometers from the tip of the peninsula, 35 kilometers of blood, sweat and toil.
The battlefields now serve as a national park with bronze and marble monuments that serve as a reminder of one of Turkey’s darkest ages. If you’re on the adventurous side, you may want to hike up to the tip; the hike is exhilarating and the view is amazing, but if you’d rather save on time, you may have a van take you to the top.
Brighton Beach
Brighton Beach was named after the exclusive, prominent suburb in Melbourne named Brighton, but everything about Brighton Beach in Turkey is nothing like the Melbourne suburb. Rather, Brighton Beach is a mile long stretch of flat area that served as a warzone during World War I.
A trip to the Brighton Beach will let you in on the sufferings that the Australian forces endured during the war. As with most war sites in Canakkale, Brighton Beach is a memorial to the bravery of the young Australian soldiers that went up against the Commonwealth and French forces. A tour to the Brighton Beach will help you better appreciate Canakkale.
Chunuk Bair New Zealander Memorial
The Chunuk Bair New Zealander Memorial stands on the summit of Chunuk Bair in honor of the 5-day Battle of Chunuk Bair during the World War I. It was during the fateful month of August in 1915 that Ottoman soldiers battled it out with New Zealander and British Forces on Gallipoli Peninsula.
All the soldiers who went down in this battle were paid tribute through this memorial, soldiers who came from the “Uttermost Ends of the Earth”. If not for the sordid history behind the memorial, the Chunuk Bair is a wonderful place for meditation, with an amazing view to accompany you during your visit.
Kabatepe War Museum
Turkey played an important role in World War I and relics of the warfare can be viewed at the Kabatepe War Museum, also known as Gallipoli Museum, which is located in Kabatepe. As with most war museums, you’ll find soldier’s uniforms and ammunition, photographs and personal effects such as shaving tools, drinking flasks and cocoa cases.
Lone Pine Australian Memorial
A historical tour around Turkey is a must because of the country’s rich past. One site you should see is the Lone Pine Australian Memorial, a reminder of one of Turkey’s 20th century highlights. The Lone Pine Australian Memorial serves as a tribute to all identified and unidentified heroes of the Battle of Lone Pine, most of which came from the Australian battalion.
